ASRM was represented by faculty and PhD students at the Chicago Forum for Responsible AI in Industry: FinTech, hosted by the Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) on April 3, 2025.
This event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and AI experts to explore the ethical and strategic use of AI in sectors such as banking, payments, and insurance.
Prof. Wei Wei served as moderator for a fireside chat titled “AI Risks in FinTech,” featuring Kevin Kalinich, Intangible Assets Global Collaboration Leader at Aon. During the conversation, Kalinich echoed Bill Gates’ observation that expectations for new technologies are often too high in the short term but too low over the long term—a sentiment that rings especially true for AI today.
Prof. Frank Quan also joined the discussion. He emphasized three keys to successful AI implementation: good data, a clear objective, and an understanding of the best means to achieve the objective. He highlighted his work on “Federated Learning for Insurance Companies,” a study that enables data sharing without exposing individual-level data.
