Course Description
Deep learning refers to a type of machine learning techniques originally developed to mimic the activity of neurons in the human brain by matrix multiplications. It is a critical building block of artificial intelligence. This course provides you with the basics for understanding this fast-evolving technology in financial applications.
The mathematical foundations of deep learning and the design of deep learning algorithms for practical applications will be covered. Topics include linear, logistic regression, backpropagation, stochastic gradient descent, forward neural networks, recurrent neutral networks, reinforcement learning, etc. Examples will be drawn from real datasets in financial and insurance applications.
* Sometimes these courses are offered as a graduate section of ASRM 499 and sometimes as an independent course ASRM 595 for graduate students only.
