Cloud Computing Workshop

Cloud Computing Workshop

Spring 2020 IRisk Lab Hack Nights

Date and Time: Wednesday, April 22, 2020, 6:00 PM (CST)

Abstract: In this presentation, you’ll get a light introduction to the public cloud. You’ll learn concepts like infrastructure-as-code, high availability, and serverless. You’ll see a real-world example of how the public cloud makes it easy to conduct analyses that don’t work well on your local machine. This will be a highly interactive demo, where attendees are encouraged to interrupt the presenter and ask questions.

About the speaker: James Lamb is a data scientist from Chicago, IL. He has been working in data science roles for 6 years (and that includes 2 years as an economist!). He is a core member of the development team for LightGBM (a machine learning project from Microsoft), and a maintainer for two R packages on CRAN and one Python package on PyPi.
